Panda breeding initiative

The most famous animals in the zoo are the cute giant pandas that are famous around the world. Very few zoos have pandas on display, and San Diego has been at the forefront of making progress to increase the population. Several panda cubs have been born at the zoo making it one of the world’s best places to see these incredible animals up close.

Animal breeding and conservation efforts

Many species are quickly becoming extinct on around the planet, but thanks to the hard work of institutions like San Diego Zoo, many animals have been saved. By studying animals up close with an experienced team of experts, the zoo has managed to help California condors, giant pandas, and rare iguanas return from the brink.

  • guided tours are available?
