Exploring Liberty Station in 2020
San Diego is home to many arts, shopping, and entertainment districts, but it’s hard to beat Liberty Station. The converted naval training center on San Diego Bay not only houses boutiques, galleries, and eateries, but every year it serves as the venue for exciting new events and workshops. Here’s a guide to the best of those taking place in 2020.
San Diego Brew Festival
San Diegans love their beer — we’ve written all about the craft breweries dotted throughout the city — and it just so happens that Liberty Station hosts one of the biggest brew fests in the area. With admission to this event, you’ll be able to enjoy unlimited craft-beer tastings from 70 local and international breweries, sample grub from food trucks, jam out to live music, take in the sunshine, and schmooze with hundreds of other beerphiles. Plus, your ticket goes to a good cause — proceeds benefit the local dog-rescue group Noah’s B-ark.

Lung Force Walk
For those who wish to support innovations in lung health, January 26 will serve as the annual Lung Force Walk. Participate in a 5k that will raise money for the American Lung Association’s efforts in preventing lung disease, and fighting threats like cancer and vaping — and hit up a festival area that includes a kids zone, food vendors, and more.

Fine Arts Festival
The Fine Arts Festival by ArtWalk is one of Liberty Station’s most popular free events, and the 15th annual festival will bring everything that has made it a hit in past years: colorful art displays, interactive art-making demos, gourmet food vendors, and live music. (Plus, “abundant parking” to make sure everyone can easily access the park and rose garden where it is held.) If you are a collector, you can purchase artwork directly from the 200-plus artists; if you are a fine artist yourself, you can apply to sell your work. Children can enjoy themselves, too, thanks to the activities at the on-site “KidsWalk.”
August 8 and 9; https://artwalksandiego.org/libertystation/
In the new year, Liberty Station will continue playing host to First Fridays, San Diego’s largest innovative arts party. Between the hours of 5-9 p.m. on the first Friday of the month, you can take in live music by local artists, watch theater and dance performances, and admire art installations. Many of the shopping and dining outlets throughout the 28-acre campus remain open, so you can pair the normal Liberty Station offerings with views of the lit-up bay.
Sunday Live Music
In partnership with Blue Bridge Hospitality, Sunday at Liberty Station will continue serving as live-music day. Head to the outdoor patio to enjoy local musicians’ shows (past performers have included reggae-rock band The Counterfeits and “blues man” Bill Magee), while noshing on fresh fare from Liberty Public Market.
