Visitors’ Guide to Liberty Station Holiday Events

Liberty Station is one of San Diego’s most unique locations. Arguably the most popular shopping center of its kind in town, Liberty Station is located on the site of a former U.S. Navy training base which has been converted to a public market. It’s home to restaurants, unique shops, and lots of special events throughout the year — including many unique holiday happenings you won’t want to miss. Take a look at this overview of Liberty Station holiday events, and plan your visit!

Wreath Crafting Workshop — 11/07

You’re invited to create some delightful holiday home décor at this open workshop. Experienced crafting coaches will assist participants in creating lovely fall- or holiday-themed wreaths from air plants, and other seasonal materials. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own snacks and beverages, and enjoy the festive atmosphere. This event will be held outside at Liberty Station, in the field off Cushing Road. Where will you hang yours?

Talmadge Holiday Art Show — 11/21

Countless talented artisans will be bringing their wares to this holiday-themed art bazaar. Liberty Station Conference Center will be the site of this event, and dozens of artists and crafters are expected to be on-hand offering unique items. When you go, you’ll discover festive jewelry, clothing, home décor, print art, sculpture, personal accessories, and much more. You’re sure to find holiday gifts for everyone on your list, especially if your list includes yourself!

Home for the Holidaze — 12/05

San Diego’s maker and vintage communities will convene at Liberty Station for this quirky open-air marketplace. Hundreds of local purveyors of unique and hard-to-find items will be offering their finds and created pieces to attendees, making this the perfect spot to find gifts for those hard-to-shop for aficionados of the odd and unusual on your list. When you go, you’ll discover fashion pieces, home goods, furniture, collectibles, and much more.

Traci’s Paws Unleash the Holiday Cheer — 12/05

San Diego’s biggest pet adoption fair will be returning to Liberty Station on December 5. Unleash the Holiday Cheer is an occasion that always brings together the community for a noble twofold purpose. First: connecting loving homes with adoptable pets. And second, showing appreciation for local military personnel. Expect live entertainment, pet photos with Santa, face painting, a pet costume contest, gists and discounts for veterans, and much more.

Ice Skating — 11/18 – 01/09

Ice skating in San Diego? It’s true! You won’t need to travel to a colder climate to glide effortlessly on the ice. Liberty Station is the site of the Rady Children’s Hospital Ice Rink, an all-ages skate-atorium where you can axel and pirouette to your heart’s content. The best part? All proceeds raised from admission or donations at the rink will benefit the Thriving After Cancer program at the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders inside Rady Children’s Hospital.

Holiday Tree and Menorah Lighting — (TBD)

These festive annual lighting ceremonies at Liberty Station have long been a treasured tradition. A massive holiday tree makes its way here every year, and burns bright through the holiday season. The Menorah lighting helps to commemorate the Jewish festival of lights, as well. After having to cancel these ceremonies for safety reasons last year, each is expected to return for 2021. The dates have yet to be determined, but watch this space for updated info.
