Be Your Own Bartender: Mix Up Classic San Diego Drinks at Home

There’s no better way to unwind than by bellying up to the bar at your favorite neighborhood watering hole. And while that might not be possible at the moment, that doesn’t mean you need to deprive yourself. So until your preferred pub is once again ready to welcome its usual foot traffic, you can still enjoy some refreshing San Diego drinks at home. Ready for a crash course in cocktail concoction? Then let’s mix it up!

Cabrillo Cooler

As crisp and refreshing as a dip in the Pacific, the Cabrillo Cooler has long been a favorite around here — and for good reason. 

  • 2 oz. Beefeater Gin
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Cucumber
  • Lime juice
  • Club soda

Directions: Muddle gin, basil leaves, and juice from a halved lime in a pint glass until well mixed. Add ice and fill with club soda. Garnish with cucumber slice.

Bayside Bar Margarita

Here’s our twist on the classic Mexican mixer. Sip it while you watch the sunset for extra effect. 

  • 2 oz. tequila 
  • 1 oz. triple sec 
  • 1 oz. lime juice 
  • 1 oz. simple syrup 
  • Lime wedge 

Directions: Salt the rim of a tumbler or margarita glass. Add ice. Mix tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Pour over ice. Garnish with lime wedge.

Point Loma Punch

Bold and fruity, cold and colorful, this punch really packs one. Mix it up, hang out in the hammock, and drift away.

  • 1½ oz. Beefeater Gin 
  • 1½ oz. Licor 43 
  • Fresh lemon juice  
  • Pomegranate juice 
  • Pomegranate jewels
  • ½ oz. Rosemary syrup  
  • Rosemary

Directions: Freeze pomegranate jewels in ice. Mix gin, Licor 43, rosemary syrup, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker. Pour over pomegranate-enhanced ice cubes in a hurricane glass. Top with pomegranate juice and garnish with fresh rosemary sprig. 

Coffee Cooler

Coffee isn’t just for breakfast anymore. Pour up this earthy, delicious concoction and enjoy a pick-me-up anytime. 

  • 1½ oz. Kahlua 
  • 1½ oz. Bailey’s Irish Liqueur
  • Iced Kona coffee 
  • 2 oz. cream
  • Whipped cream 
  • Chocolate syrup

Directions: Pour Kahlua, Bailey’s, and cream into an all-purpose glass over ice. Fill with iced coffee and stir. Top with whipped cream and drizzle with chocolate syrup.
