One of the more popular viewpoints in San Diego, Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach extends 1 and a half miles along Point Loma peninsula's western shoreline. Sunset Cliffs boasts panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean that truly can't be beat. Although the area does get a bit congested during the summertime, the views themselves are well worth sitting in traffic for. On your way out, don't forget to cruise down the famous Newport Avenue (featured in the Cameron Crow flick, "Almost Famous") and perhaps stop at the ever-popular Hodad's for a quick bite or grab a drink at Wonderland Ocean Pub located just around the corner on Santa Monica Avenue and drink in some more beautiful beach views.
Pro tip: If you decide to explore Garbage Beach (located beneath Sunset Cliffs), prepare to scale a rope down the side of the cliffs. Although the sunset from the beach itself is beautiful, climbing back up the rope in the dark is not for the faint of heart!
